SAMER ZAWAYDEH, President

SAMER ZAWAYDEH, M.S.C., C.R.M., R.E.P., is an Independent Engineer internationally recognized energy expert with 26 years of management experience around the world. He worked in the extra heavy steel structure fabrication of power stations and refineries worldwide and on developing several wind energy projects in Jordan. He is working on on Jordan Renewables Readiness Assessment (2020-2025) with IRENA, Jordan Climate Change Stakeholders Dialogue to initiate the carbon market and finance, energy efficiency, renewable energy, utility scale Wind and PV projects development with and he is the first consultant that started implementing Jordan Green Building Guide rating system 2015. He is also a lecturer at the Al Hussein Technical University. 

He worked on stakeholder management with several private and international donor agencies like USAID, GIZ, EU, MEDA on conducting energy audits for buildings, proposing energy conservation methods and implementing energy retrofit projects and development of the Photovoltaic Center of Excellence for technicians training in Mafraq-Jordan with sector skills committee development models. And he conducted several in depth studies on energy, water sectors, green economy and PV Sector. He developed training programs and trained over 17,000 people since 2012 in renewable energy and energy efficiency regulatory framework, REEE Economics, green buildings, thermal insulation, project development, best practices, carbon emissions and climate change.

He is a public speaker and a certified Carbon Reduction Manager (CRM), Renewable Energy Professional (REP), and holds several other certifications. He continuously works on energy awareness, capacity building and developing clean energy projects that are secure and affordable. Committed volunteer to the development of the energy sector locally, regionally and around the world through the Association of Energy Engineers network. He served as AEE President Elect (2019), AEE Secretary (2018-2019), CRM Board Chairman (2018-Present), President of the Jordan Energy Chapter (2015-2017), Secretary of the Jordan Energy Chapter (2017-2019), International Certification Board (2016-Present), Assistant Director for International Membership Development for Special Projects (2014-Present), Student Chapters Mentor (2014-Present), Assistant Director for International Membership Development for Middle East (2012-2014). In addition, he founded eight student chapters locally, and three regionally, and helped in the startup of four chapters regionally.

LORI MOEN, Past President

LORI MOEN, C.E.M., C.S.B.A., has over 30 years of diverse and deep experience in the energy industry.  Her innovative approaches to sustainable design, distributed generation, capital improvements, behavior change, and financing programs have resulted in millions of dollars in verified resource savings.

Straddling the utility and customer divide, Lori has split her career between utility program delivery and facility energy management.  She has worked for all four major utilities in the Puget Sound Region implementing and overseeing customer-facing energy programs.  On the owner-side, she has managed energy and resource conservation programs within county and school district facilities.  Her EE experience spans from goat barns to flight simulators, and from integrated controls to simple behavior change initiatives.

Lori currently leads the Solutions Design and Management unit for Customer Energy Solutions at Seattle City Light. In this role, she oversees a Program Management Office responsible for cradle-to-grave design of an ever-changing portfolio of customer solutions. The portfolio has 23 active programs spanning all customer sectors and markets including EE, Renewables, and EVs. Her team recently launched an Energy-Efficiency as a Service pilot and energized the utility’s first residential EV charging stations.

Lori has a bachelor's in Physics and German from Willamette University. She is a Certified Energy Manager, a Certified Energy Procurement Professional, and a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor. Lori is an active member of the Association of Energy Engineers; chartering and serving on the board of the local chapter, serving on AEE’s executive committee, and is currently Past President on AEE’s Board of Directors.

Buster Barksdale, President-Elect
 

GEORGE “BUSTER” BARKSDALE, C.E.M., C.S.D.P., C.D.S.M., served as CEO for CoGen Power Solutions where he led development for several major cogeneration and renewable projects.  Throughout his 40-year career Buster has performed energy audits, designed and installed energy management systems, revised the Air Force maintenance program, revised the Department of Energy’s Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) process.

Buster served as President of the DC Post for 8 years.  He served in various Board positions at AEE including Regional VP and the Director of Government Affairs. Buster chairs the Certification Board for Cogeneration, is a Fellow and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. 

Dr. Fotouh Al-RaGom, Secretary

FOTOUH AL-RAGOM, C.E.M., C.E.A, C.S.D.P., is Energy Efficiency Technologies Program Manager at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). Fotouh holds a PhD degree in Mechanical engineering from University of Florida, Gainesville.

She is a research scientist with over 20 years’ experience in the field of energy conservation, energy efficiency, energy auditing, energy code, air conditioning and renewable hydrogen production. She has led several projects in her field of expertise and earned international recognition.

She participates in professional training nationally and regionally in energy efficiency and energy auditing and is currently is an authorized CEA and REP trainer for Kuwait. She authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and holds several shared patents. She is currently a member of the national energy efficiency, policy and planning and renewable energy committees of the Supreme Energy Committee for the State of Kuwait. She founded the AEE Kuwait Chapter and currently serves as its president. She is the AEE Assistant Director of International Development for the Middle East Region.

Fotouh has received several recognition awards including the Emirates Energy Award, the Federation of Arab Engineers Distinguished Female Engineer for the State of Kuwait and International Professional Development Award from AEE. She is a fellow member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Tim Janos, Treasurer

TIMOTHY B. JANOS, J.D., C.E.M., C.E.A., C.I.E.P., C.D.S.M., C.S.D.P., B.E.P., Principal of Spectrum Energy Concepts, Inc., is involved in a wide variety of energy-related projects. Virtually his entire 36-year professional career has been dedicated to energy efficiency and energy savings. His extensive background features hundreds of successful energy audits and projects for major clients in the automotive, industrial, educational and commercial facilities sectors.

Tim is an International Instructor for the Association, an AEE Fellow and a Member of the AEE Energy Managers Hall of Fame. Besides his technical knowledge and success in saving energy, Mr. Janos has been a tireless promoter of the energy profession both locally and nationally. Thousands have benefited from the meetings, workshops, courses, and lectures he has presented. He was the AEE President in 2006 and has served for 16 years as Chairman of the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Board. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) Board and the Certified Industrial Energy Professional Boards (CIEP).

Maryanne Strobel, Region I Vice President

MARYANNE STROBEL, Director, Strategic Initiatives, has been with Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) for 20 years.  Currently, she serves as Director, Strategic Initiatives in the Marketing Department and is charged with developing programs to advance competitive-edge solutions to sell more natural gas and create new market opportunities.

Upon graduating from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Maryanne landed a job on Ronald Reagan’s 1980 Presidential Campaign in Washington, D.C.  She worked for President Reagan’s Press Secretary, Jim Brady in the White House and eventually moved on to other roles in the Administration.  Her energy career was launched when she took a position to work for the Secretary of Energy on the Natural Gas Deregulation Task Force at DOE Headquarters in Washington, D.C. She then moved to Philadelphia and took a position with Gulf Oil, which was undergoing a merger with Chevron Oil.  She worked in public affairs and government relations handling the East Coast business operations for Chevron U.S.A. until she took an appointment in the Bush Administration at the U.S. General Services Administration, Region 3 headquarters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A public affairs expert and lobbyist, Maryanne worked for The Marcus Group, a New Jersey firm, and Air Products and Chemicals at their international headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.  She specialized in communication and government relations with respect to environmental and energy systems programs.

An AEE member since 1998, in 2008 she was elected to serve on the local chapter board of the Greater Philadelphia Association of Energy Engineers (GPAEE) and holds the distinction of being the Chapter’s first women board member.  Maryanne was selected to serve on the inaugural International Board of Directors for the Council on Women in Energy and Environmental Leadership (CWEEL) in 2010.  Maryanne also serves on the board of the Building Industry Association (BIA) Philadelphia, PA  (2012 – Present) and  was Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Commonwealth Recycled Energy and Economic Development Alliance (CREEDA).  She has had several feature articles published in the American Public Gas Association’s (APGA) national magazine, The Source about CHP and natural gas vehicles.

Ray Segars, Region II Vice President

RAY SEGARS, C.E.M., is a professional with almost four decades experience in the energy industry. Currently, he works with Yardi Systems a real estate management software company as a consultant advising multifamily and commercial clients on energy efficiency and sustainability to reduce GHG. Specifically, he helps clients with reporting to the GRESB ESG sustainability bench marking program. Previously, he worked over 10 years with Georgia Power Company providing energy services to C&I customers, regulatory affairs guidance and national account management. He worked over 22 years as an independent consultant to multifamily, C&I and national account clients providing energy choice and efficiency consulting. He also worked eight years with a small project ESCO conducting energy audits, economic analysis, M&V of ESPC, and EnergyStar Portfolio Manager profiling.

His education includes a BS in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech and a MS in Marketing and MBA both from Georgia State University. He has received recognition from the Edison Electric Institute, Southeast Electric Exchange, International Mass Retail Association and US EPA for his work in energy efficiency.

He has been a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation awarded by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in 2010. In addition to the CEM, he has submitted papers and presented at WEEC conferences. He also has served two terms as the president of the Atlanta Georgia AEE Chapter. He also earned the LEED Green Associate accreditation from the USGBC in 2019.

His work in energy and environmental conservation extends to civic and charitable organizations. He has served as a Scout Master teaching youth about environmental conservation. He worked with a neighborhood conservation group in Brookhaven Georgia to preserve and protect a natural creek and watershed area. He also assisted a faith-based nonprofit to help congregations of all faiths implement energy efficiency, renewable and environmental conservation measures. For fun, Ray loves to connect with nature by camping, hiking and kayaking.

Rick Lubinski, Region III Vice President

RICHARD “RICK” LUBINSKI, C.E.M., C.E.A., C.D.S.M.P., C.S.D.P, C.B.E.P., is President of Think Energy Management LLC, an internationally recognized energy consulting firm with 39 years energy management experience in 38 states…plus DC, Canada and the Caribbean. He has conducted over 1,200 ASHRAE level 1, 2, 3 energy audits. He is also a Life Member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), serves as the President of the Northern Ohio Chapter of AEE, and VP of AEE Region III. He guides C & I clients on demand-side management, supply-side management, performance contracting with M&V and Utility Benchmarking & Disclosure laws, metering and provides MEP project support.

He holds several international professional certifications including: Certified Energy Manager, Certified Energy Auditor, Certified Demand Side Management Professional, Certified Sustainable Development Professional, Certified Business Energy Professional plus Certified Energy Management Systems Contractor, and US EPA Certified U.S. Green Lights Survey Ally.

Jerry Casey, Region IV Vice President

JERRY CASEY II, works as the Energy Solutions Specialist for OJ Dupree Company in Kansas City, focused on energy efficiency projects (variable frequency drives and motor controllers). He graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 2006 with a B.S. in Engineering Management with an emphasis in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Psychology. He has over a decade of experience in the power and automation industries, including contract management, process design, business development, equipment specifications and procurement contract development and negotiation, field engineering, and field team management.

Jerry works with potential clients to determine specific solutions to meet their energy and renewable goals. At his most recent role as Enery Specialist for MC Power, he designed and estimated solar and solar plus storage project for commercial and Industrial customers, Municipal utilities, city-owned facilities, and school districts across the Midwest area. Jerry was also the subject matter specialist on Grid Scale Battery Storage and LED lighting technologies.

He is quite involved in the engineering community. He is the Region IV Vice-President for the Association of Energy Engineers – National and the Past-President for the Association of Energy Engineers – Kansas City (AEE-KC).  In his free time, Jerry loves running, spending time with his family, singing or playing drums at church, networking/building new relationships, running the family 501(c)3 charity (Joyful Morning), and mentoring the next generation!

Cynthia Martin, Region V Vice President

CYNTHIA MARTIN, B.E.P., C.S.D.P., has over 37 years of marketing and Business development experience, with her career beginning in the rapidly moving computer industry from 1980 to 1992. She held the position of Regional Manager at Enable Software, Albany New York, as well as Senior Account Manager at Ashton Tate in Torrance, CA.

While working on a Master’s in Business from the University of Phoenix, Ms. Martin was asked to join the Southern California Edison Company in 1995. Cynthia took the position and then graduated in 2001, achieving her MBA degree.

During her 26 years of experience with Southern California Edison, Ms. Martin has driven attainment of individual, team and company goals, deliverance of excellent customer satisfaction, and successful resolution to complex regulatory customer impacts and projects.

Project Leaders

Eric Oliver, Director of Governmental Affairs

Eric Oliver, P.E., C.E.M., L.E.E.D., A.P., is the Director of Energy Solutions at 2RW Consultants.  A passionate energy conservationist, Eric Oliver started his career with the federal government in EPA’s Energy Star Buildings Program. Prior to joining 2RW in 2018, Eric served as VP, Energy Services at InScope Innovation.  Eric founded EMO Energy Solutions in 1998 to address the growing need for energy efficiency services and ran the Company for 19 years until 2017. With EMO, Eric was among the earliest practitioners of the LEED program, providing energy modeling, commissioning, and LEED consulting services in addition to energy auditing capabilities.  Mr. Oliver has conducted several dozen energy-training seminars, created energy awareness and education campaigns, and presented and moderated at several energy conferences.

Mr. Oliver holds a Master’s degree in Building Technology and a Bachelor of Architecture from MIT. A licensed professional engineer in Virginia and Maryland, he is a former President of the National Capitol Chapter and national Secretary of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), has served on the Board of Directors of the National Capitol Region Chapter of the US Green Buildings Council (USGBC-NCR), and is a former Board Chairman of the Virginia Sustainable Building Network (VSBN).

John Lord, Advisor to Student Chapters

John Lord, C.E.M, C.S.D.P., C.D.S.M., C.E.A., C.M.V.P., has been an Energy Manager for public school districts in Virginia since 2003. He has experience in three school divisions, Amelia County, Loudoun County, and currently Fairfax County. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is the 11th largest school district in the nation.

Mr. Lord is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM). In addition to the CEM, Mr. Lord holds several other certifications from the Association of Energy Engineers including Certified Sustainable Development Professional, Certified Demand Side Management Professional, Certified Energy Auditor and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional. Mr. Lord is also licensed teacher in VA with 10 years of classroom experience.

Mr. Lord served as the President of the National Capital Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers from Oct 2015 through December 2019 and continues to serve as a Board Member. At the National level, Mr. Lord serves as AEE Adviser to Student Chapters for the US. In addition, he serves on the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government’s Climate, Energy & Environmental Policy Committee.

Stephen A. Roosa, Director of Sustainable & Local Programs

Stephen A. Roosa, Ph.D., C.E.M., C.S.D.P., R.E.P., B.E.P., C.R.M.,C.M.V.P., is President of RPM Asset Holdings in Louisville, KY. His company delivers sustainable energy solutions, manages real estate and other investments, and produces seminars. With over 30 years’ experience in commercial energy solutions, he is considered internationally to be an expert in energy efficiency, renewables and sustainability. He has been involved in over $100 million in completed renewable, energy and water conservation projects.

He is a past President of the Association of Energy Engineers and chairs the Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP) Board and the Renewable Energy Professional (REP) Certification Board. He holds a Ph.D. (University of Louisville), an MBA (Webster University) and a Bachelor of Architecture degree (University of Kentucky).  He is an AEE Fellow and member of the Energy Manager’s Hall of Fame. In his capacity as Director for AEE, he assists state and local governments with energy policy development and in using AEE’s certification programs. Dr. Roosa is also the Editor-in-Chief of AEE's International Journal of Strategic Energy and Environmental Planning.

Robert Airo, Advisor to U.S. Chapters

Robert Airo, C.E.M., C.E.A., C.H.F.M., M.B.A., is an Assistant Director of Engineering and Operations for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has worked for UAMS for 11 years, and has progressed from Sustainability Coordinator, to Business Manager, and to Assistant Director. He currently oversees the department’s Support Services, including campus utilities and budget, energy management, campus elevators, the department’s warehouse, and special projects for the 5.4 million square-foot academic medical center campus. He is a Certified Energy Manager, Certified Energy Auditor, Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager, and possesses a Master of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

He previously has served three years as the Association of Energy Engineers national Vice-President – Region IV (2016 through 2018); he has served as its Treasurer, Vice President, and President (2015) of the Arkansas Chapter of the AEE. He is also the Vice-President of First Lutheran Church in Little Rock. Previously, Robert had a 25 year career as a Paramedic in Little Rock, Arkansas.

International Leaders

Larry Good, Director International Member Development

Larry Good, C.E.M., B.E.P., C.E.A., C.S.D.P., now retired, devoted his career to better energy management in order to stop global warming. To this end, Larry worked as a consultant, developing programs at home and abroad that uncovered cost-effective opportunities. In Washington he worked closely with EPA, USPS, and FEMP to improve energy management in federal facilities. Later he managed projects for US, UN and EU development agencies on three continents, mostly in the former Soviet republics. The projects demonstrated design, financing and implementation of sustainable energy projects and national policies.

For over 20 years Larry has served as an officer of AEE, developing its international network of chapters. Through most of the nineties, he was president of the National Capital Chapter in Washington. There, at the request of Senator John Glenn, he led a volunteer task force to recommend Federal energy goals and training provisions patterned on AEE courses, which went into the Energy Policy Act of 1992. He organized national conferences and other cooperative programs with FEMP. In 1999 he was inducted into the AEE Energy Managers Hall of Fame. In 2004, he served as President of AEE.

Afure Onekpe, Assistant Director International Member Development for Awards

Afure Onekpe, M.S.C., C.E.M., C.E.A. E.P.M, E.P., C.R.E, C.S.E.P., has over 15 years Environmental, Energy and Engineering experience. She is the Founder of the Association of Energy Engineers Alberta Chapter (AEE) and a board member. She serves as a Director in the board of Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance (AEEA) and is the Chair of the membership committee. Afure also serves in the Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET) Certification Board. She has served as the CAPP representative for the NPRI Multi-stakeholder committee. She has greatly influenced Energy Efficiency in Alberta through her involvement and promotion of Energy Efficiency programs, training and certifications. Her goal is to continue to promote Energy Efficiency.

Afure has worked with multiple organizations including oil and gas producers, manufacturing, petrochemical, waste management and chemical industries. She has assisted clients in improving facility energy performance and reducing GHG emissions through the implementation of energy management program. She has technical expertise developing and evaluating energy, manufacturing and industrial processes in the petrochemical, Energy and Manufacturing sector. She has vast experience in industrial and commercial energy audit. Afure has led organization and project level quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and removals. She has conducted validation and verification of GHG emission inventory and energy reduction projects.

Afure has a Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. She is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), a Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), a Certified Environmental Professional (EP) with a specialization in Energy, Sustainability, GHG/Air and Water, a Certified RETScreen Expert (CRE), a Certified Enterprise Program Manager (EPM) and a Canadian Sustainable Energy Practitioner (CSEP).

As the founder of AEE Alberta chapter, Afure has successfully developed an Energy Management Hub and promoted Energy Efficiency in Alberta. Her experience and connections in the Alberta market has delivered unparalleled insights into the Energy Efficiency Alberta Programs. Afure has a record of accomplishment of influencing industries in switching to energy efficient products/programs aimed at reducing GHG emissions.

She has excellent track record of success in helping industry assess, reduce and forecast their GHG emission. She is brilliant and often finds new solutions to intellectually challenging problems. She recently won the prestigious international Award- 2019 Young Energy Professional of the Year.

Alain Aoun, Assistant Director International Member Development for Student Affairs

Alain Aoun received an MSc (2006) in Industrial and Power Engineering from the Lebanese University and ME in Electrical Engineering (2007) and Renewable Energies (2018) from the Saint Joseph University in Beirut–Lebanon and is currently a PhD student and researcher at the University of Quebec at Rimouski. He is presently the Managing Director of Alain Aoun & Partners, an engineering firm specialized in the electrical, energy and lighting fields and Co-Founder of Blockchain Leaders a start-up in the field of blockchain consultancy and research.

With a track record of 15 years of experience, Alain Aoun is an engineering consultant, trainer, entrepreneur and expert in the fields of energy, blockchain and electrical engineering.

Dr. Leonard Chow, Assistant Director International Member Development for Asian Pacific Rim

Dr. Leonard Chow, C.E.M., C.B.C.P., C.S.D.P., C.A.P., C.E.A, C.I.A.Q.P., has served as President of the AEE Hong Kong Chapter. He was AEE’s Energy Engineer of the Year in 2012. He is also elected as a Fellow of AEE in 2013. He has been the AA Chapter Course Manager since 2006 and the Assistant Director of Asian Pacific Rim Development. He has practiced as a Mechanical and Building Services Engineer for over 30 years.

Dr. Chow is currently a Chartered Engineer in UK, a registered Professional Engineer in Hong Kong and a Chartered Professional Engineer in Australia. He established his own company ISPL Consulting Ltd in 1995. His company consults in Environmental (Energy Audits & IAQ), Mechanical, Structure, Safety and aspects. Dr. Chow is actively involved in professional institution contributions. He has written technical papers, guidelines, and manuals and has conducted technical seminars in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing, Xian, Shanghai, Singapore, and Atlanta in recent years. He is registered at EMSD as a Registered Energy Assessor (no. 43) under the new Building Energy Efficiency Ordinance (Cap 610).

Dr. Binoy Choudhury, Assistant Director International Member Development for Asian Subcontinent

Dr. Binoy Choudhury, C.E.M., from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur & Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India), is Professor in the Energy Management stream of Master of Public Systems Management (MPSM) program at the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), Kolkata. He served as Principal Investigator/ Coordinator in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects covering community development to industrial profitability/sustainability issues. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Certified Energy Manager (AEE), and Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) of the Government of India. He served United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) as Economic Affairs Officer in the Energy Resources Section and contributed to the regional energy scenario assessment, improvement of energy efficiency and CDM workshop.

He is a contributor to books, journals, international and national seminars, and workshops. He is the founding secretary of AEE India Chapter and Energy Club and is life member of Solar Energy Society of India, AEE, Indian Society for Technical Education and Institution of Engineers (India).

Kaushik Bhattacharjee, Assistant Director International Member Development for Canada

Kaushik Bhattacharjee, C.E.M., C.M.V.P., C.E.A., is a President of Reipower Inc. that provides Energy Management Services to Commercial and Industrial Clients. CEM (Certified Energy Manager), BEP (Business Energy Professional), CEA (Certified Energy Auditor), CMVP (Certified Measurement and Verification Professional). He holds a Masters in Energy Management from New York Institute of Technology, US (NYIT). He has over 15 years of international experience in energy management. He has carried out energy audits, guided implementation including M&V for several types of projects in data centers and commercial buildings and maximized savings. He has also worked with a few large Canadian Utilities in conservation and demand side management programs.

Kaushik received honorable mention in a most recently completed term for “Most Savings by a Roving Energy Manager” and “Most In-service Savings by a Roving Energy Manager” at the Energy Managers of Ontario Excellence Awards held at the Energy Manager forum in Toronto (2015). He was also named the “Energy Engineer of the Year” for Canada region (2015) by Association of Energy Engineers Georgia, Atlanta USA. He has published an AEE Book – Industrial Energy Management Strategies – Creating a Culture of Continuous Energy Improvement. He has also co-authored two other books on Energy Management, contributed articles to number of journals and made presentation in several IEEE International Conferences and World Energy Engineering Congress on Energy Management.

Dr. Dusan Petras, Assistant Director International Member Development for Eastern & Central Europe

Professor Dušan Petráš from Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava-Slovakia, is the former vice-rector of STU and dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Also he is the president of Slovakian HVAC-Association SSTP (Slovak Society of Environmental Technology) and the past-president REHVA (Representative European Heating, Ventilation Association).

Currently, he is the professor at the Department of Building services and dealing with the HVAC-systems in buildings. His scientific work is focused on the energy conservation by performance of the buildings with respect to the providing the health and comfortable indoor environment. He is author and coauthor of 15 books (Energy auditing of Buildings, Renewable Energy Sources for Low-temperature systems, Low-temperature heating and High-temperature cooling...), 50 scientific papers in foreign journals/on international conferences as well as about 100 lectures in 25 countries in 3 world languages. Professor Petráš is also member of AEE, ASHRAE, Academy of ISIAQ, REHVA Fellow, he was also the Guest Professor in DTU Lyngby (Denmark) and Guest Lecturer in FH Pinkafeld (Austria).

Alexander Ovdiienko, Assistant Director International Member Development for the FSU (Former Soviet Union)

Alexander Ovdiienko, C.E.M., has been the President of the Central AEE Chapter in Ukraine since 2012. He is accredited consultant by Verkhovna Rada’s of Ukraine Committee on Energy, Nuclear and Nuclear Security, member of Public Counsils of Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ukraine, State Agency on Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency of Ukraine. According to Ukrainian legislation Alexander is Certified Energy Auditor. He is engaged in development and implementing energy sustainable and non-carbon economic development projects such as improving energy efficiency, using alternative energy sources and development of energy market for more than 16 years.

Alexander’s qualification and skills are the following: Business Development & Finance expert, Holder of Energy Saving and Energy Management Diplomas, Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy auditor and expert, Life Cycle Cost Analysis and Adaptation of ESCO schemes to EE Projects in Industries, Utilities and Buildings. Alexander is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian and English. General professional experience includes: Experience of management, finances, commercial relationships and project management in Ukrainian and International groups. He has excellent knowledge of the energy actors and practices in the energy saving, renewables and the gas distribution sector in Ukraine. He is experienced in official international relations and in international cooperation projects on energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy, in responsibility of international relations and in European integration actions of a national energy, energy saving and renewable energy agencies.

Dr. Fotouh Al-RaGom, Assistant Director International Member Development for the Middle East

Dr. Fotouh Al-Ragom, C.E.M., C.E.A, C.S.D.P., R.E.P., is Energy Efficiency Technologies Program Manager at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). Fotouh holds a PhD degree in Mechanical engineering from University of Florida, Gainesville.

She is a research scientist with over 20 years’ experience in the field of energy conservation, energy efficiency, energy auditing, energy code, air conditioning and renewable hydrogen production. She has led several projects in her field of expertise and earned international recognition.

She participates in professional training nationally and regionally in energy efficiency and energy auditing and is currently is an authorized CEA and REP trainer for Kuwait. She authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and holds several shared patents. She is currently a member of the national energy efficiency, policy and planning and renewable energy committees of the Supreme Energy Committee for the State of Kuwait. She founded the AEE Kuwait Chapter and currently serves as its president. She is the AEE Assistant Director of International Development for the Middle East Region.

Fotouh has received several recognition awards including the Emirates Energy Award, the Federation of Arab Engineers Distinguished Female Engineer for the State of Kuwait and International Professional Development Award from AEE. She is a fellow member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Dr. LJ Grobler, Assistant Director International Member Development for Sub-Saharan Africa Region

Dr. LJ Grobler is Dean of the Engineering Faculty at the North-West University (NWU) in South Africa since 2012. He heads the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing that was established by the Department of Trade and Industry at the NWU in 2009. He is director of CFAM Technologies and founded ExtruAfrica in 2011. During 2007/8, he was the President of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) based in Atlanta, USA and was the first non-American to become president. He founded the Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE) in 2002 and was president of the SAEE from 2002 till 2012.

Dr. Grobler became certified as an Energy Manager (CEM) in 1998 and a Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) in 2000 by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) based in the USA. He is registered as a professional engineer (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) since 1995 and received his Ph.D. at the University of Pretoria, South Africa also in 1995. He is AEE trainer for the CEM programme in Southern Africa and introduced the CEM programme in 2002. Since then he presented the CEM more than 30 times.

Prof LJ Grobler received the Lifetime Achievement Award during the eta Awards 2010 in South Africa for his extensive involvement in energy efficiency through measurement and verification, his visualisation programme to show energy consumption in buildings, and for setting the benchmark for training and development of energy engineers. He is a fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering and has authored and co-authored more than 40 local and international articles. He has also presented and co-presented more than 50 papers at local and international conferences and seminars. In 2016 he was inducted into the AEE Hall of Fame.

Dr. Hicham Lahmidi, Assistant Director International Member Development for Western Europe

Dr. Hicham Lahmidi, C.E.M., C.B.C.P., CEA., is a French energy expert with significant practical experience in Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Research and Sustainability. Currently working at the French National Metrology and Testing Laboratory LNE, as Head of Energy, Environment and Fire Business Unit, and Chair of AEE France Chapter, he managed different National and European projects related to energy efficiency.

Dr. Lahmidi participated to the transposition of Energy Performance Building Directive (EPBD) in Europe and development of French regulations for new and existing building. He also participated to the development of low energy construction label in France (Effinergie) and implementation of commissioning, as a quality process, in Building and Industries in France and Europe. He also developed a multi criteria decision making software for building refurbishment based on genetic algorithms, a biomass gasification prototype producing bio fuel and two solar thermal storage prototypes based on a thermochemical transformer. His scientific publications are available on different scientific journals (Fuel processing technology, Applied Energy, Solar Energy).
