Experience

Applicants must meet the relevant experience and educational credentials needed to achieve certification. For instance, a certification may require a 4-year degree in technology or environmental science and 4+ years’ experience working the in the fields of energy engineering or energy management. Each certification’s requirements differ.

If you do not meet one of the eligibility criteria, you can still apply for the certification and be assigned the “In-Training” designation, which allows you time to meet the full experience and education requirements.

Training

All AEE certification candidates must attend an approved training program from AEE or an approved training partner. Our training programs provide more value than only preparing individuals to take the associated exam. They bring all candidates to a base level of understanding across a wide variety of topics aligned with the fundamental knowledge base of the certification program.

For those entrenched in their normal daily activities, attending a training program can be a catalyst for improvement and change. For many, the chance to network, connect, and learn from other like-minded individuals is also incredibly valuable.

Application

Once you have documented your education, experience, and training program information it’s time to submit your application, pay applicable certification fees, and schedule an exam.

Many of the exams are held the day after an in-person training program. AEE Also offers candidates the opportunity to schedule the exam at their convenience and take it remotely (online).
