Certified Power Quality Professional
AEE's Certified Power Quality Professional (CPQ) program is designed to award special recognition to power quality professionals who have demonstrated a high level of knowledge, experience, competence and ethical fitness in this emerging, highly specialized field. The knowledge required of power quality specialists covers a broad range of applications and issues, ranging in scope from the vastness of the nation's power distribution networks to the immediacy of devices sharing a wall outlet. By obtaining the CPQ credential, you will be establishing your status as a qualified expert in this growing area of specialized expertise.
Objectives
- To raise the professional standards of those engaged in power quality.
- To improve the practice of power quality by encouraging professionals in a continuing education program of professional development related to power quality.
- To identify persons with acceptable knowledge of the principles and practices of power quality through completing an examination and fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct.
- To award special recognition to those professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competence and ethical fitness for power quality.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

4-year engineering/architectural degree OR |
AND | 3+ years related* experience |
4-year unrelated degree | AND | 5+ years related* experience |
2-year associate degree | AND | 5+ years related* experience |
NONE | 10+ years related* experience | |
Current status of Certified Energy Manager (CEM®) |
*Related experience in power quality, energy or building or facility management, or electrical design, engineering, or contracting.
Requirements
All CPQ candidates must attend one of AEE's preparatory CPQ training seminars, submit a CPQ certification application, and pass an open book examination, which is proctored by an approved exam administrator.
The examination is based on an approved Body of Knowledge, which includes the main subject areas and the percentages of each included in the examination.
