Certified Energy Procurement Professional
AEE's Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP) program is designed to award special recognition to professionals who have demonstrated a high level of knowledge, experience, competence and ethical fitness covering the full spectrum of activities related to the purchase, sale and marketing of electricity and natural gas. By obtaining the CEP credential, you will be establishing your status as a qualified expert in this growing area of specialized expertise within the restructured energy marketplace.
Objectives
- To raise the professional standards of those engaged in energy procurement.
- To improve the practice of energy procurement by encouraging energy professionals in a continuing program of professional development.
- To identify persons with acceptable knowledge of the principles and practices of energy procurement related disciplines and laws governing and affecting energy managers through completing an examination and fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct.
- To award special recognition to those energy professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competence and ethical fitness for energy procurement.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

4-year unrelated degree | AND | 5+ years related* experience |
2-year associate degree | AND | 5+ years related* experience |

Current Status of Certified Energy Manager (CEM®) |
*Related degree in science, engineering, architecture, business, law, finance, or related field and related experience in energy or building or facility management, or real estate, or procurement, or brokering.
Requirements
All CEP candidates must attend one of AEE's preparatory CEP training seminars, submit a CEP certification application, and pass an open book examination, which is proctored by an approved exam administrator.
The examination is based on an approved Body of Knowledge, which includes the main subject areas and the percentages of each included in the examination.
