Certified Business Energy Professional
AEE's Certified Business Energy Professional (BEP) program awards special recognition to those business/marketing and energy professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competence and ethical fitness for business/marketing and energy management related disciplines, as well as laws governing and affecting energy professionals.
- To raise the professional standards of those engaged in business/marketing, energy management, utility account management and customer service representative.
- To improve the practice of energy management by encouraging energy business professionals in a continuing education program of professional development.
- To identify persons with acceptable knowledge of the principles and practices of business/marketing and energy management related disciplines and laws governing and affecting energy professionals through completing an examination and fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct.
- To award special recognition to those business/marketing and energy professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competence and ethical fitness for business/marketing and energy management.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
|4-year related* degree OR Professional Engineer (PE) OR Registered Architect (RA)||AND||2+ years related* experience|
|4-year unrelated degree||AND||3+ years related* experience|
|2-year associate degree||AND||5+ years related* experience|
|NONE||AND||8+ years of related* experience|
|Current status of Certified Energy Manager (CEM®)|
*Related degree includes business, marketing, finance, engineering, or architecture and related experience includes business, marketing, sales in the energy field.
If you do not meet one of the eligibility criteria above, you can still apply for an in-training certification, BEPIT. In order to gain the in-training certification, you must attend a BEP preparatory training seminar, submit the BEPIT certification application, and pass the BEP certification examination. The BEPIT certification is valid for six years, which allows you time to meet the full BEP certification eligibility requirements.
All BEP candidates must attend one of AEE's preparatory BEP training seminars, submit a BEP certification application, and pass an open book examination, which is proctored by an approved exam administrator.
The examination is based on an approved Body of Knowledge, which includes the main subject areas and the percentages of each included in the examination.

Candidates wishing to take an international certification program should contact the local training provider for seminar, certification application, exam registration, and fees.
