Certified Professionals: Key to Decarbonization and Energy Efficiency

The 21st century has brought a growing awareness of environmental conservation and a palpable interest in preserving our planet for future generations. Public opinion, increasingly sensitized, is at the same time critical of emerging technologies. As a result, we are witnessing increasingly restrictive regulatory development regarding decarbonization targets and greenhouse gas emission limits.

In response, the market is exploring alternative solutions to decarbonization that include not only electrification, but also the adoption of alternative fuels in processes with high heat consumption. Efficiency is key, but without forgetting the need for cost-effective technologies that allow for the continuity of industry. Classical solutions are no longer enough for this purpose; it is necessary to innovate. It is time to look for more efficient engines, new applications for electric mobility, and alternatives to traditional fossil fuels.

In this context, the role of certified professionals in energy efficiency and renewable energies becomes a priority. To build innovative alternatives, it is essential to master the basic aspects that condition energy use. Only then can we contextualize alternatives such as electric vehicles or assess the realistic potential of hydrogen as an energy carrier, or fuels of synthetic or biological origin.

A clear example of the role of certified professionals is being seen in Europe with the application of the White Certificates or, Energy Savings Certificates (ESC), which certify the savings obtained as a direct consequence of the implementation of energy efficiency measures. The white certificate market has welcomed CMVP® professionals, trained and certified by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) for years.

Similar experiences are seen with professionals who hold traditional certifications such as the CEM® or CEA™, or the newer ones such as the CDSM™ or 50001 CP. It is precisely the result of this uninterrupted work of training and certification of professionals that has allowed for the establishment of a group of leading professionals when it comes to finding solutions to the ambitious energy challenges facing our society today.

El siglo XXI ha traído consigo una creciente conciencia sobre la conservación del medio ambiente y un interés palpable por preservar nuestro entorno para las futuras generaciones. La opinión pública, cada vez más sensibilizada, se muestra al mismo tiempo crítica frente a las tecnologías emergentes. Como consecuencia, estamos presenciando un desarrollo normativo y regulatorio cada vez más restrictivo en cuanto a los objetivos de descarbonización y los límites de emisión de gases de efecto invernadero.

En respuesta, el mercado está explorando soluciones alternativas a la descarbonización que incluyen no solo la electrificación, sino también la adopción de combustibles alternativos en procesos con un alto consumo de calor. La eficiencia es clave, pero sin olvidar la necesidad de disponer de tecnologías rentables que permitan la continuidad de la industria. Las soluciones clásicas ya no son suficientes; es necesario innovar. Es el momento de buscar motores más eficientes, nuevas aplicaciones de la movilidad eléctrica y alternativas a los combustibles fósiles tradicionales.

En este contexto, la figura de los profesionales en eficiencia energética y energías renovables se vuelve prioritaria. Para construir alternativas innovadoras, es preciso dominar los aspectos básicos que condicionan el uso de la energía. Solo así podremos contextualizar alternativas como vehículos eléctricos o dimensionar el potencial realista del hidrógeno como vector energético, o de los combustibles de origen sintético o biológico.

Un claro ejemplo del papel de los profesionales certificados lo estamos viviendo en Europa con la aplicación de los certificados blancos, que permiten certificar los ahorros obtenidos como consecuencia directa de la implementación de medidas de eficiencia energética. El mercado de los certificados blancos ha recibido con los brazos abiertos a los profesionales CMVP, formados y certificados por la Asociación de Ingenieros Energéticos (AEE, por sus siglas en inglés) durante años.

Experiencias similares se viven con profesionales que poseen certificaciones tradicionales como el CEM o el CEA, o las más novedosas como el CDSM o 50001 CP. Es precisamente fruto de esta ininterrumpida labor de formación y certificación de profesionales lo que ha permitido constituir un colectivo de profesionales de referencia a la hora de buscar soluciones a los ambiciosos desafíos energéticos que se enfrenta nuestra sociedad actual.
