In 2000, I began my career in energy efficiency as a salesperson and technical advisor for steam system technologies. A decade later, I delved into programming variable frequency drives to optimize electrical consumption. In 2013, upon joining the Wholesale Electricity Market of Guatemala, I identified enormous energy-saving potential but also a significant lack of specialized knowledge.

Seeking to expand my competencies, in 2014 I joined the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) as a member. A year later, after an intensive course during the AEE World Energy Conference in Orlando, FL, I achieved the CEM® certification.

The CEM® certification not only enriched my skills but also expanded my network and strengthened my credibility as a professional in the energy industry.

The Value of CEM® Certification

The CEM® certification provided solid backing for my energy audit reports and other related proposals, generating greater trust among clients and consumers. This resulted in an increase in projects and job opportunities, opening doors from multinational companies that require this specific certification to award and develop energy service projects.

In 2021, together with other professionals in the field, we founded the AEE Guatemala Chapter, through which we have provided training throughout Latin America on energy efficiency, renewable energy, alternative fuels, waste heat utilization, ISO 50001 certifications, energy management, energy savings in steam systems, and hydrogen, among others. This has helped position the AEE chapter in Guatemala and its members as leaders in the region, facilitating the expansion of our knowledge and services to other neighboring countries.

Impulsando el Cambio Energético en Latinoamérica: Mi Experiencia como CEM^®

En el año 2000, inicié mi trayectoria en eficiencia energética, como vendedor y asesor técnico en tecnologías de sistemas de vapor. Una década después, me adentré en la programación de variadores de frecuencia para optimizar el consumo eléctrico. En 2013, al ingresar al Mercado Mayorista Eléctrico de Guatemala, identifiqué un enorme potencial de ahorro energético, pero al mismo tiempo también una gran falta de conocimiento especializado.

Buscando ampliar mis competencias, en 2014 me uní como miembro de la Asociación de Ingenieros en Energía (AEE). Un año después, tras un curso intensivo durante el Congreso Mundial de Ingeniería Energética (AEE World) en Orlando, FL; obtuve la certificación CEM^®.  

La certificación CEM^® no sólo enriqueció mis habilidades, sino que amplió mi red de contactos y fortaleció mi credibilidad como profesional en la industria energética.

El Valor de la Certificación CEM^®

La certificación CEM^® otorgó un respaldo sólido a mis informes de auditorías energéticas y otras propuestas relacionadas, generando una mayor confianza entre clientes y consumidores. Esto se tradujo en un aumento de proyectos y oportunidades laborales que abrió puertas en empresas multinacionales que exigen esta certificación específica para adjudicar y generar proyectos de servicios energéticos.

En 2021, junto a otros profesionales en la materia fundamos el AEE Guatemala Chapter, a través del cual hemos impartido capacitaciones en toda Latinoamérica sobre eficiencia energética, energías renovables, combustibles alternativos, utilización de calor residual, certificaciones ISO 50001, gestión de la energía, ahorro energético en sistemas de vapor, e hidrógeno entre otros. Esto ha ayudado a posicionar al capítulo de AEE en Guatemala y a sus miembros como referentes en la región, facilitando la expansión de nuestros servicios a otros países aledaños.
