AEE Updates the Certified Energy Manager Body of Knowledge to Include Climate Change and Decarbonization Topics

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [Atlanta, GA – April 1, 2024] – The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is pleased to announce the update of the Body of Knowledge (BoK) for its Certified Energy Manager® (CEM®) certification, the most globally recognized certification in the energy industry. The CEM® training program and exam have also been updated to align with the new Body of Knowledge. The update, which occurs every five years, ensures that the CEM® remains relevant and reflective of the latest trends and practices in the energy industry.

A Certified Energy Manager® (CEM®) optimizes energy performance across facilities with a focus on sustainability. They integrate systems for efficiency and contribute to decarbonization efforts. In addition to the updated materials, AEE has introduced a new 1-hour training class for existing certified professionals. This training is to ensure that all current Certified Energy Managers stay up to date with the latest industry best practices and technologies.

AEE maintains, updates, and validates its accredited exams through a comprehensive process. A twenty-member committee of energy efficiency subject matter experts from around the world worked closely with Authentic Testing Corporation, a psychometric and testing services company, to conduct the evaluation. The committee identified the domains, tasks, knowledge, and skills essential to the performance of a CEM®. The recommendations of the committee were then validated by a survey sent to CEM® certified professionals.
