AEE Volunteer Position: International Representative, Awards Program

Afure Onekpe, M.S.C., C.E.M., C.E.A. E.P.M, E.P., C.R.E, C.S.E.P., has over 15 years Environmental, Energy and Engineering experience. She is the Founder of the Association of Energy Engineers Alberta Chapter (AEE) and a board member. She serves as a Director in the board of Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance (AEEA) and is the Chair of the membership committee. Afure also serves in the Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET) Certification Board. She has served as the CAPP representative for the NPRI Multi-stakeholder committee. She has greatly influenced Energy Efficiency in Alberta through her involvement and promotion of Energy Efficiency programs, training and certifications. Her goal is to continue to promote Energy Efficiency.

Afure has worked with multiple organizations including oil and gas producers, manufacturing, petrochemical, waste management and chemical industries. She has assisted clients in improving facility energy performance and reducing GHG emissions through the implementation of energy management program. She has technical expertise developing and evaluating energy, manufacturing and industrial processes in the petrochemical, Energy and Manufacturing sector. She has vast experience in industrial and commercial energy audit. Afure has led organization and project level quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and removals. She has conducted validation and verification of GHG emission inventory and energy reduction projects.

Afure has a Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. She is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), a Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), a Certified Environmental Professional (EP) with a specialization in Energy, Sustainability, GHG/Air and Water, a Certified RETScreen Expert (CRE), a Certified Enterprise Program Manager (EPM) and a Canadian Sustainable Energy Practitioner (CSEP).

As the founder of AEE Alberta chapter, Afure has successfully developed an Energy Management Hub and promoted Energy Efficiency in Alberta. Her experience and connections in the Alberta market has delivered unparalleled insights into the Energy Efficiency Alberta Programs. Afure has a record of accomplishment of influencing industries in switching to energy efficient products/programs aimed at reducing GHG emissions.

She has excellent track record of success in helping industry assess, reduce and forecast their GHG emission. She is brilliant and often finds new solutions to intellectually challenging problems. She recently won the prestigious international Award- 2019 Young Energy Professional of the Year.
