This presentation will define monitoring-based commissioning and discuss its role in the context of comprehensive energy management based on ISO 50001’s four-phase Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle of continuous improvement. It is structured around each of the four phases and how monitoring-based commissioning contributes and enhances the best practices therein.
Monitoring-based commissioning has emerged as a promising solution to uncover and track energy savings opportunities. Average energy savings of 5% from no/low-cost energy conservation measures as well as improvements in operations and maintenance are two of its most sought-after benefits. But monitoring-based commissioning is more than just an isolated measure to find easy cost savings: It is a profoundly useful tool and practice for every step of a comprehensive energy management program that builds on its successes to drive further improvement.
