Introducing The Current: AEE’s New Member-Only Community Platform

The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is proud to announce the launch of The Current — a collaborative, member-only online community forum built to connect AEE’s global network of energy professionals like never before. Whether you’re a seasoned industry veteran, a student just entering the field, or a chapter leader working to grow your local community, The Current is your dedicated space to engage, collaborate, and grow.
What is The Current?
The Current is AEE’s new member-only online community platform for discussion, resource sharing, peer connection, and professional engagement. Designed with AEE members in mind, The Current brings together energy professionals from across industries, chapters, and regions into a single, powerful online space.
At its core, The Current reflects one of AEE’s most fundamental values of being a people first organization: that the true power of membership lies in the strength of our network.
“The Current enhances that network by making it easier than ever to connect, learn from one another, and stay engaged. I encourage you to explore the platform, join the conversation, and take full advantage of this new opportunity to grow together.” Bill Kent, CEM, Executive Director, AEE
Why Community Matters
The most valuable resource for energy professionals isn’t just information – it’s each other. The challenges and opportunities in today’s energy landscape are too complex and too fast-moving to navigate alone. AEE members have always known this, which is why connection, networking, and collaboration are consistently among the most valued aspects of AEE membership.
The Current takes that connection beyond annual conferences and local chapter events by creating an always-on, always-accessible space where members can engage in real time, wherever they are in the world.
Explore the Communities
The Current launches with four vibrant communities, each tailored to specific interests and professional needs with more communities on the way:
AEE Member Hub (All Members): The heartbeat of The Current. This is where all AEE members come together to connect, collaborate, share knowledge, ask questions, and engage with peers across the entire energy industry. Whether you’re looking for advice, sharing a discovery, or simply introducing yourself to the community, the AEE Member Hub is your home base.
Webinars Community: Learning doesn’t stop when a webinar ends. This community lets members continue the conversation. Discuss webinar content, participating in AMAs (Ask Me Anything) with webinar hosts, and accessing recordings of past sessions. It’s the ideal space for members who want to go deeper on the topics that matter most to them.
Students & Young Energy Professionals Community: The energy industry’s next generation of leaders has a dedicated space to call their own. Students and emerging energy professionals can network with peers, share career insights, access resources tailored to early-career growth, and build the connections that will shape their professional journeys for years to come.
Trending Topics: Stay at the forefront of the industry. This community uses AI-powered tagging capabilities to help members discover and dive into the conversations that are shaping the future of energy. From policy shifts to new technologies, Trending Topics keeps you informed and in the conversation.
Growing Beyond the Screen: Chapter & Mentor Communities
AEE’s global community is strongest when it extends from the digital world into the real one. That’s why The Current is also designed to support and strengthen AEE’s chapters and mentorship programs. Additional communities are being rolled out to streamline communications, share event updates, and support engagement at the local level, including:
- Professional Chapter Officers Community: A dedicated space for professional chapter officers to coordinate, communicate, and share what’s happening in their local communities.
- Student Chapter Officers Community: Empowering student chapter leaders to connect, collaborate, and elevate their campus programs.
- Mentor/Mentee Communities: Facilitating meaningful mentorship connections that support professional growth and leadership development across the AEE network.
More communities are on the horizon as The Current continues to grow and evolve alongside the AEE membership.
“This platform is truly our own space — designed to strengthen our professional community and foster meaningful conversations across industries, chapters, and regions. As we continue advancing the 2026 AEE Presidential Theme, ‘Building Leaders, Advancing Impact,’ The Current will support our pillars of Leadership, Connection, and Service by creating new opportunities for networking, mentorship, professional growth, and member engagement.” Ricson Chude, P.E., CEM, CEA, CMVP — AEE President
