Prof. LJ Grobler is an esteemed and accomplished academic figure in the field of engineering, renowned for his expertise in energy efficiency and advanced manufacturing. From 2012 to 2017, he served as the Dean of the Engineering Faculty at the North-West University (NWU) in South Africa, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s engineering programs and fostering a culture of excellence in education and research.

After his impactful term as Dean, Prof. Grobler has continued to contribute significantly to the field of engineering. He currently holds the esteemed position of Professor in Mechanical Engineering and serves as the Director of CFAM Technologies, a renowned company specializing in advanced manufacturing solutions. In these roles, he brings his extensive knowledge and expertise to drive innovation, research, and practical applications in the field of mechanical engineering.

As the Director of CFAM Technologies, Prof. Grobler spearheads the development of ground-breaking technologies and applications that revolutionize twin-screw extrusion in the food and feed processing industries. His visionary leadership and technical expertise have played a vital role in the company’s success, establishing it as a prominent player in the advanced manufacturing sector.

During 2007/8, Prof. Grobler made history by becoming the first non-American President of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) based in Atlanta, USA. In 2002, he founded the Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE) and led as its president until 2012, demonstrating his commitment to promoting energy efficiency and sustainability in the region.

Prof. Grobler is widely recognized for his certifications and contributions to the field of energy efficiency. He became a certified Energy Manager (CEM) in 1998 and a Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) in 2000, both awarded by the AEE. Additionally, he is a registered professional engineer (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) since 1995. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Pretoria in 1995 and has since been an AEE trainer for the CEM program in Southern Africa, introducing the program in 2002 and presenting it more than 30 times.

Prof. LJ Grobler’s remarkable achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the eta Awards 2010 in South Africa. He was recognized for his extensive involvement in energy efficiency through measurement and verification, his visualization program showcasing energy consumption in buildings, and for setting the benchmark for training and development of energy engineers. He is a fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering and has authored and co-authored over 40 local and international articles. Furthermore, he has presented and co-presented more than 50 papers at local and international conferences and seminars. In 2016, he was honoured with induction into the AEE Hall of Fame, solidifying his status as a leader in the field of energy efficiency.
