This CWEEL Women in Energy Panel Discussion will bring together energy professionals for a candid, conversational look at career pathways, professional growth, and emerging opportunities for women in energy. Across the discussion, panelists will reflect on turning points in their career paths, the day-to-day realities of their work amid the broader energy transition, and challenges they have navigated as women in the field. About the Presenters:

Xinpei Li is an Energy Engineer with Kroger Co., with over 10 years of corporate energy and green building management experience.

Emily Thomas Watt is Director of Energy Markets, Americas at Microsoft, bringing 15 years of blended experience across energy engineering, power procurement and renewables.

Jane Ge is Managing Partner at Vectors Capital, investing in next-generation decarbonization and climate tech, with over 15 years of combined research, engineering and investment experience.

Bob Henderson LC, CLEP is the owner of RLH Lighting. He has worked in lighting as a consultant, lighting center principal instructor, lighting sales agent, utility lighting specialist and director of lighting and controls training and is an emeritus member of the IES. Bob received the Distinguished Service Award from the IES in 2023. He served on the LC Test Committee for 10 years with 2 years as the chair and in a senior advisor capacity afterwards. He is currently the lead instructor for 3 lighting centers as well as being the current Chair and content creator of AEE CLEP Committee Worldwide and one of AEE’s lead US instructors. He was an editor of Fundamentals of Energy Efficient Lighting and Controls by River Publishing.

This presentation introduces the CWEEL WASH Innovation Challenge: a structured, time-bound, crowdsourced initiative designed to mobilize innovators worldwide to reimagine Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) systems for a more resilient future. In this session, presenters will walk attendees through each aspect of the challenge: pre-launch stakeholder outreach and the global dissemination strategy; idea submission, screening, and evaluation processes; and finalist pitches and winner selection criteria and process. Attendees will learn how the initiative has potential to advance workforce development, grow CWEEL’s international membership by 15% in CY26, and generate thought leadership that positions AEE/CWEEL as a global leader in applied innovation beyond conferences and certifications.

About the Presenters:

Kjrsten Bobb, PE, CEM, serves on the CWEEL Governing Board and is chair of the CWEEL International Programs and Events Committee. She has been a key contributor to the CWEEL WASH Innovation Challenge, leading its global dissemination strategy and stakeholder outreach.

维迪亚钱德兰博士 is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SCMS School of Engineering and Technology in Ernakulam, Kerala. With more than 17 years of experience in higher education, she specializes in fluid-structure interaction, offshore hydrodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, and marine renewable energy systems.

Wendi Durham is the Innovation Program Manager at Stanley Consultants, where she leads firm-wide efforts to advance innovative solutions and programming. In her role supporting the CWEEL WASH Innovation Challenge, Wendi brings expertise in program design and cross-functional collaboration to help structure and advance the challenge from concept to execution.

John Guilfoyle is the Chief of Technology and Innovation at Stanley Consultants, where he leads the firm’s efforts to deliver pragmatic, data-driven solutions across public and private sectors. With over 25 years of experience, John specializes in strategy, information technology, infrastructure management, and business process optimization.

Building on the foundation laid in Part 1, this session continues the deep dive into monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) through the lens of building automation system graphics, this time tackling more complex HVAC configurations. Ilana Cember, PE, CEM at Brightworks Sustainability, will walk through dedicated outside air systems (DOAS) with heat exchangers and heat recovery, heat pumps, and water-side free cooling, showing how ongoing monitoring reveals the subtle degradation that keeps these systems from performing as designed. Participants will see real-world examples of how sensor drift, outdated control sequences, and unmonitored schedules quietly erode efficiency in even the most sophisticated equipment, and how a data-driven approach catches these issues before they become costly.

Ilana Cember is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Energy Manager at Brightworks Sustainability with a penchant for translating complex energy systems into plain language. With deep experience in building decarbonization, electrification strategy, and grid-interactive technologies, they spend their days helping clients cut carbon without cutting corners. Ilana’s work sits at the intersection of engineering pragmatism and climate optimism, a combination that makes them equally comfortable modeling building loads, explaining how the grid really works, or gently debunking persistent myths about electricity. When they’re not unraveling the mysteries of our energy system, they’re advocating solutions that make the clean-energy transition hilariously engaging, technically sound, and genuinely achievable.
