Advancing the Maldives’ Renewable Energy Agenda

With the Maldives working to meet 33% of its electrical needs through renewable energy systems within the next five years, building local capacity is more important than ever.

AEE and the AEE Maldives Chapter in Development recently presented the Certified Renewable Energy Professional (REP) training program. This training is a significant step towards fulfilling the commitment made by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Maldives, as stated at COP28. 

The training, led by AEE Instructor, Dr. Stephen Roosa, Ph.D., CEM, CMVP, CSDP, REP, BEP,  took place in Malé, Maldives in December 2023, and was conducted by the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Maldives under the The World Bank funded “Accelerating Sustainable Private Investments in Renewable Energy (ASPIRE)” project.

A total of 25 professionals working in various organizations attended the weeklong program. The organizations include the Utility Regulatory Authority – Maldives Fenaka Corporation Limited , State Electric Company LtdMale’ Water & Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Epoch AssociatesDhiraagu, and other private companies.

The REP Certification is specifically designed to boost the skills of professionals in renewable and sustainable energy technologies. By equipping professionals with enhanced skills in renewable and sustainable energy technologies, the Maldives are actively contributing to their nation’s ambitious renewable energy targets and supporting their journey towards a sustainable future.
