Alejandro Bellini
AEE Fellow Induction Year: 2025
Alejandro Bellini, PE, CEM, GBE, leads IntelliBuildings LLC, an engineering consulting firm and electrical energy contractor based in Florida.
His deep involvement in the energy management field began early in his career. Before graduating, he interned with CMS Energy affiliate SENECA in Venezuela, where he played a key role on a team performing energy audits for more than 45 large customers and participated in the utility’s power quality improvement initiatives.
From 2001 to 2002, he continued working with the utility during his thesis period, designing, developing, and implementing a microcontroller-based electrical demand controller using a novel load forecasting algorithm that connected to the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) from GE. At the time, SENECA was in the process of deploying one of the world’s first AMI projects.
Between 2006 and 2008, he pioneered the commercial implementation of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices by designing and developing a groundbreaking IoT-based electrical, energy, and environmental monitoring system for data centers. The proprietary hardware and software handled over 5,000 variables per site, enabling optimization of energy consumption, air distribution, and system resiliency.
More recently, he served as the owner’s representative and lead commissioning engineer for one of the largest VAV retrofit projects in a commercial high-rise in the U.S., which was awarded Project of the Year by ABB in 2022.
Alejandro holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) in Venezuela, a master’s degree in Energy Management and Auditing from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in Spain, and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Florida International University (FIU) in the U.S.
He is a regular participant at the AEE World Conference, was recognized as an AEE Legend in Energy in 2017, and holds the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Green Building Engineer (GBE) credentials from AEE.
Alejandro is also a licensed Professional Engineer and Unlimited Electrical Contractor, and he serves on the Permitting and Construction Review Board for the City of Boca Raton.
