Every AEE certification requires a specific combination of education and professional experience.

  • Requirements Vary: Eligibility differs for each certification.
  • "In-Training" Option: If you don't yet meet the full requirements, you can still apply and receive the "In-Training" designation, giving you time to gain the necessary experience or education.

All certification candidates must attend an approved training program*.

  • Mandatory Program: You must complete an approved training course from AEE or an authorized partner.
  • Core Knowledge: This training ensures all candidates achieve a foundational understanding of the wide variety of topics covered by the certification's body of knowledge.

*Select certifications do not require a mandatory training program. Please read the requirements for each certification.

Step 3: Apply and Take the Exam

Once your education, experience, and training are documented, you're ready to apply.

  • Submit Your Application: Document your qualifications, submit your application, and pay the applicable certification fees.
  • Schedule Your Exam: Live exams are held following in-person training. AEE also offers the flexibility to schedule and take the exam remotely (online) at your convenience.
