Sri Lanka
World Bank for the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) Training on Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) and Advanced Measurement & Verification Professional (AMV) Course
May 2023 - June 2023
-
The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) is dedicated to advancing sustainable energy technologies and practices as part of its commitment to reducing the nation's dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change impacts. A crucial step in achieving these objectives is enhancing institutional capacity to measure and verify the efficacy of energy efficiency investments and resultant savings, aligning with global standards. The World Bank collaborates with SLSEA through its Sustainable Energy Support initiative, aimed at scaling up renewable energy, enhancing energy efficiency, and bolstering institutional capacity. Specifically, within the energy efficiency and cooling domain, the Bank has devised implementation models to encourage investment in energy-saving initiatives within public, commercial, and industrial sectors. However, there exists a necessity to fortify measurement and verification protocols to effectively implement such strategies in Sri Lanka, ensuring transparency and accountability in evaluating their effectiveness. In partnership with SLSEA, the World Bank endeavors to engage a consulting firm to conduct a certification program focused on energy savings monitoring and evaluation (M&V), targeting up to 30 professionals involved in energy management and demand-side efficiency in Sri Lanka. The primary aim is to elevate professional standards in M&V practices by promoting internationally recognized methodologies for quantifying energy usage. The program will particularly emphasize energy efficiency measures, such as building retrofits and appliance replacements, funded through Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs), equipping participants with essential skills. AEE was chosen to facilitate a three-day Fundamental of Measurement & Verification certification training program (CMVP) and exam for 30 candidates, while AEE collaborated with Econoler to offer a two-day Advanced Measurement & Verification Professional course (AMV) to 30 local government and industry professionals.
