{"id":53842,"date":"2026-09-01T14:20:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T18:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aeecenter.org\/?post_type=aee-news&#038;p=53842"},"modified":"2026-09-03T12:01:51","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T16:01:51","slug":"aee-joins-international-coalition-calling-for-cop31-to-prioritize-energy-efficiency","status":"publish","type":"aee-news","link":"https:\/\/www.aeecenter.org\/fr\/aee-news\/aee-joins-international-coalition-calling-for-cop31-to-prioritize-energy-efficiency\/","title":{"rendered":"AEE Joins International Coalition Calling for COP31 to Prioritize Energy Efficiency\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) has joined a coalition of leading energy and business organizations including the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ase.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alliance to Save Energy (ASE)<\/a>, la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bcse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE)<\/a>, la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/euase.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU Alliance to Save Energy<\/a>, et&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.efficiencycanada.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Efficiency Canada<\/a>,&nbsp;in an international effort to&nbsp;demonstrate&nbsp;the private sector&#8217;s ongoing commitment to energy efficiency. Together, the group is urging global leaders to prioritize doubling the rate of energy efficiency improvements as a faster, less expensive, and ready-now solution ahead of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/cop31\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COP31<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of this effort, the coalition has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aeecenter.org\/fr\/cop-31-energy-efficiency-business-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">developed&nbsp;a letter<\/a>&nbsp;that will be sent to the joint COP31 Presidencies of Australia and T\u00fcrkiye and formally announced at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.climateweeknyc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Climate Week NYC<\/a>. AEE is inviting businesses and organizations to add their names as signatories before the letter goes out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;COP31 Action&nbsp;Agenda already includes a goal of doubling the global rate of energy efficiency improvement, along with new targets for waste reduction and the energy intensity of buildings. The coalition sees these additions as a meaningful opening,&nbsp;but&nbsp;states&nbsp;that efficiency needs to be treated as a cross-cutting solution woven through every goal on the agenda, not a standalone item.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The letter lays out five strategic principles for COP31 negotiators to consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Energy efficiency strengthens energy security and expands access while lowering overall energy needs.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Efficient technologies and financing tools are already available and ready to deploy at scale.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Efficiency cuts waste across economies and supply chains, conserving energy, water, and other resources.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Efficiency\u00a0investment in buildings and infrastructure improves reliability, safety, and productivity.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Efficiency projects create local jobs and help close the skills gap in the energy workforce.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The letter closes with an\u00a0invitation\u00a0from the private sector to partner with governments on financing, innovation, and implementation.\u00a0\u00a0It also\u00a0requests\u00a0that\u00a0UNFCCC\u00a0convene\u00a0a high-level roundtable\u00a0at COP31\u00a0dedicated to energy efficiency.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For AEE,&nbsp;working alongside global leaders&nbsp;affirms our&nbsp;commitment to keeping energy efficiency at the center of the global climate and energy conversation,&nbsp;and to making sure the voice of energy professionals and businesses is represented at COP31.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Businesses and organizations interested in signing the letter can do so&nbsp;before September 14, 2026.
