We are at a critical point in time where we must invest and implement clean energy solutions.
As we look ahead to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan we are hopeful energy efficiency continues to be a part of the conversation, at AEE we know its key to the solution.
At COP28 in Dubai, AEE was pleased to hear the call to action by the global stocktake under the Paris Agreement to double energy efficiency by 2030.
"The ‘global stocktake’ is considered the central outcome of COP 28 – as it contains every element that was under negotiation and can now be used by countries to develop stronger climate action plans due by February 2025." UNFCCC.
At COP28, AEE's delegation was pleased to participate in panels, roundtables, and negotiations and looks forward to participating in meaningful ways at this important conference in Azerbaijan in 2024.

AEE is an Observer Organization to the UNFCCC and will be participating in COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan November 11-22, 2024. 63% of our network surveyed converts energy savings to carbon savings.
50% of these people include these savings as an energy efficiency financial analysis.
Nearly 66% of the members and certified professionals surveyed have reduced their company's energy consumption up to 20%.
Of the members and certified professionals surveyed, over 50% operate in the Commercial/buildings sector and about 25% in the industrial sector

Since 2018, AEE has conducted an annual survey of its members to create an energy job and market trends report, shared as a benefit to its members.
In 2023, an updated version of the survey was fielded among membership to generate data for the annual summary.

In every region globally, over 75% of respondents felt there is a shortage of energy efficiency professionals.
Nearly 40% indicate they will be retiring within the next 5 – 10 years, highlighting both the opportunity and need for new professionals to enter the industry.
Industries that indicate strong hiring in the next year include ESCOs, Utilities, Consultancy and Contractors, and Commercial sectors.
Trends in High Level Strategic Goals
Consideration for all categories trended up this year, perhaps indicating an overall increase in investment for energy-related goals.
Decarbonization Agreement Statments
75% of respondents in the study are energy efficiency decision makers. Agreement is up in 2023 for all three statements about current decarbonization efforts.
64.3% of professionals agreed that "my company and work are being driven by my decarbonization and net-zero goals."
40.2% of professionals agreed that "I am dealing with grid capacity issues."
48.3 % of people agreed that "EV charging is a part of my grid and decarbonization initiatives."
Challenges
Across all regions, the biggest challenge is budgeting and funding restraint.
Factors Driving Change
Financial savings remains the leading factor driving change, while corporate sustainability initiatives, climate change, and competition in the industry all trended downward this year.
