Association of Energy Engineers has established the Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP™) certification program with the dual purpose of recognizing the most qualified professionals in this growing area within the energy industry, and raising the overall professional standards within the existing building commissioning field.

Objectives

  • To raise the professional standards of those engaged in existing building commissioning.
  • To improve the practice of existing building commissioning by encouraging professionals in a continuing education program of professional development related to commissioning.
  • To identify persons with acceptable knowledge of the principles and practices of existing building commissioning through completing an examination and fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct.
  • To award special recognition to those professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competence and ethical fitness for existing building commissioning.

Recognition

City of Atlanta - EBCP is one of the approved credentials to do work under the City of Atlanta’s Commercial Building Ordinance(link is external)

City of Boston
CEM, CEA, CMVP, CBCP, and EBCP are approved credentials for complying with the Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO 2.0).

City of San Francisco - EBCP recognized by the City of San Francisco Existing Commercial Buildings Energy Performance Ordinance and the Department of Environment to provide energy auditing or building commissioning services.

City of San Jose - The City of San José Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance requires an annual energy and water benchmarking report for buildings owned by the City of San Jose that are 15,000 sq ft or more, or privately owned residential and non-residential buildings that are 20,000 sq ft or more. AEE's Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), and Certified Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP) are qualified to perform this work under the ordinance.

Montgomery County, Maryland - EBCP is an acceptable verification credentials in Montgomery County, Maryland's Benchmarking Program.

New York
EBCPs is an approved credential for commissioning under Local Law 87.
