According to the EPA, the transportation sector accounts for about 29% of the total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, making it the largest contributor of GHG emissions in the country. In fact, between 1990 and 2017, GHG emissions in the transportation sector increased more in absolute terms than any other sector.  These facts present a challenge as well as an opportunity to improve energy efficiency in the transportation sector. Huge advances have been proposed in the electrification of transportation to reduce GHG emissions, but this solution requires the de-carbonization of electricity generation in order to be effective. Meanwhile, cities around the world are taking alternative measures to reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector including the use of new technologies such as IoT as well as new approaches in their urban development. In this webinar, we will discuss some of these approaches in order to have a better understanding of the relationship among energy efficiency, transit technologies, and new urban development and planning.
