Supporting Domestic and International Chapters

There are times when chapters / members may not realize how the International Office of AEE supports local chapters. So here is a quick list to remind you of the areas that our office supports local chapters.

DOMESTIC CHAPTER BENFITS (US CHAPTERS ONLY)

  1. Annual Operation /Appropriation Funding – AEE pays chapters that remit Operations Reports, $5.00 per AEE member that has attended one or more chapter meeting(s) throughout the year.

  2. Chapter Awards Program - following the outline of AEE’s International Awards program, chapters are encouraged to actively solicit local industry leaders and celebrate their achievements with AEE awards.  This brings attention and great PR to the local chapter.  Chapters are encouraged to send a press release to their local newspapers as well as to AEE’s office to publish in the CHAPTER INSIGHT.  AEE will provide Chapters with up to six plaques annually at no charge.

  3. Scholarships - AEE encourages chapters to submit up to five undergraduates and one graduate student each year to receive $500 each in scholarship money that is granted to each chapter through the Foundation of the AEE.  The best overall student from all of the submissions will receive our $1000 Victor Ottaviano Scholarship.

  4. A No Cost Web Site - hosted on the AEE website www.aeecenter.org.  This site allows chapters to post upcoming and past chapter information at no charge.  AEE will also post newsletters on the chapter site at no charge to the chapter. The chapters are encouraged to submit their newsletters to patty@aeecenter.org and she will post them each month.

  5. Message Board and Chat Room - available at any time to chapters wishing to conduct an on-line meeting.  The chapters can post the technical paper for the chapter on the AEE web site and then help monitor the session.

  6. AEE Chapter Insight - the CHAPTER INSIGHT is a section of the AEE ENERGY INSIGHT, on-line newsletter.  AEE encourages chapters to submit articles and upcoming conference announcements to AEE for publication.

  7. Collection of Local Chapter Dues - AEE will collect dues for the chapter through the billing of our National dues.  Payments are made to the chapter monthly accompanied by a list of members that the payment reflects.

  8. Specialty Items - available to chapters at no charge:

a)      Adhesive name badges

b)      Membership coupons – discounts for first time members

c)      Certificates of Appreciation

d)      Chapter Presidents pins

e)      Book and seminar catalogs

These programs come to my mind quickly and are generally offered to all chapters in good standing.  If a chapter is not in good standing, then we could have a problem.

Additional benefits are the open network of members that are willing to share their time and information with any member.  Our Regional VP’s are available to the chapters as a resource as well as our board members.

When AEE produces a conference in a city in which a chapter exists, AEE encourages a local or regional chapter meeting.  This year at GLOBALCON, AEE hosted the PA, NY and NJ chapters at a chapter lunch.  AEE is also trying to conduct a statewide chapter meeting in conjunction with our West Coast Energy Management Congress (WCEMC) to be held, June 6-7, in Anaheim, CA.

These programs come to my mind quickly and are generally offered to all chapters in good standing.  If a chapter is not in good standing, then we could have a problem.

Additional benefits are the open network of members that are willing to share their time and information with any member.  Our International VP, Larry Good is available to the chapters as a resource as well as our board members.

All of the above resources are paid for though membership funds that are paid to AEE.  It is very important to remember that these benefits exist because members and chapter members pay their National dues.  It is important to remember that the by-laws state: any person that joins a local chapter must then in turn join National within six months.  Please encourage your local members to complete their membership applications at each meeting so we can continue providing the above resources and add more in the future.
