CBCP - Certified Building Commissioning Professional

Since 1981, AEE has certified over 15,000 professionals within the energy industry. AEE's certifications are recognized by governmental agencies, including the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Agency for International Development, as well as by utilities, end users, and energy service companies. When you earn the right to put the initials "CBCP" behind your name, you are distinguishing yourself as one who brings to your professional activities the full scope of knowledge requisite to the effective commissioning of existing buildings. You have demonstrated high levels of experience, competence, and specialized knowledge within your field.

New - AEE Certifications Recognized in New York City and by City of San Francisco
Local Law 87 for New York City requires all buildings in New York City over 50,000 square feet to perform retro-commissioning of systems and to submit an energy efficiency report based on a building audit performed by a qualified energy auditor. Under Local Law 87, the Association of Energy Engineers' Certified Building Commissioning Professional, Certified Building Commissioning Firm, and Existing Building Commissioning Professional certifications are approved retro-commissioning certifications, and the Certified Energy Manager and Certified Energy Auditor certifications are approved for energy auditing. The City of San Francisco's Department of the Environment now recognizes a Certified Energy Manager, Existing Building Commissioning Professional, and Certified Building Commissioning Professional with at least two years' experience as qualified to provide energy auditing services. Under the city's Environment Code Chapter 20 Existing Commercial Buildings Energy Performance Ordinance, an energy audit is required every five years.

• A four-year degree from an accredited university or college in science, engineering, architecture, business, law, finance, or related field, or be a registered professional engineer (P.E.), or registered architect (R.A.). In addition, the applicant must have at least three years experience in facilities management HVAC or process engineering design, construction project management, electrical/controls design, installation or operations, testing, adjusting and balancing, or building commissioning.

• A two-year technical degree, or vocational school certificate in HVAC/Electrical; or valid HVAC or Electrician contracting license; or hold a four-year non-technical degree from an accredited university or college in a field not specified above. In addition, the applicant must have at least five years experience in facilities management HVAC or process engineering design, construction project management, electrical/controls design, installation or operations, testing, adjusting and balancing, or building commissioning.

• Ten years or more verified experience in facilities management HVAC or process engineering design, construction project management, electrical/controls design, installation or operations, testing, adjusting and balancing, or building commissioning.

• The current status of Certified Energy Manager (CEM®).
