Certified Performance Contracting
and Funding Professional

 

Objectives

To raise the professional standards of those engaged in performance contracting and energy project funding and financing.

To improve the practice of performance contracting and energy project funding and financing by encouraging professionals to partake in a continuing education program of professional development for performance contracting and energy project funding and financing professionals.

To identify persons with acceptable knowledge of the principles and practices of performance contracting and energy project funding and financing through completing the certification and fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct.

To award special recognition to those energy professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competence and ethical fitness in performance contracting and energy project funding and financing.

PCF Eligibility Requirements

The candidate for PCF certification must meet one of the following criteria in order to sit for the examination:

Education   Work Experience
4-year engineering or architectural degree and/or the current status of Certified Energy Manager® (CEM®)    
4-year business or related degree AND At least 3 years of experience in performance contracting or energy project funding or financing
2-year technical degree AND At least 5 years of experience in performance contracting or energy project funding or financing
NONE   At least 8 years of experience in performance contracting or energy project funding or financing

Note: Participants who pass the certification but do not meet one of the previous prerequisites may reapply for the PCF designation once education or experience requirements have been met.


Basic Skills Required for the PCF Seminar

The PCF preparatory seminar assumes basic problem-solving skills, including quick and accurate use of a hand calculator and ability to set up problem solution expressions and calculations from a written problem statement. Students should know how to perform the "Time Value of Money Calculations," such as NPV, IRR, etc. Those needing a refresher program in these skills may wish to review the free NPV webinar below:

 

 

Examination and Training Requirement

All PCF candidates must attend one of AEE's preparatory PCF training seminar, and complete and PCF examination within the allotted four-hour time frame. The exam is proctored by an AEE-approved exam administrator. Information on seminar training options is provided below.  The examination questions are based on concepts and experiences basic to performance contracting and energy project funding and financing professionals from recognized texts and supplemental reading. The exam is open book!

A passing score of at least 70% is required in conjunction with meeting all other eligibility requirements to become certified.

 
 
Fees
 
Fees for the PCF certification process are as follows:
  • Certification Application and Examination: $300
  • Certification Renewal: $300 every three years

These fees must be paid at the time the PCF application and the seminar registration are submitted. No application or examination fee refunds are allowed.

How to Apply for PCF Certification

Application Deadlines: Your completed application must be received by the Certification Administrator 3 weeks prior to date of the examination for which you wish to sit in order to guarantee you are pre-registered for the examination.  After this date, you may be required to complete a waiver on-site if your name is not pre-registered

All PCF candidates are required to complete the PCF preparatory seminar Strategies for Effective Performance Contracting and Energy Project Funding.
